Companion guardrails

What the AI companion will and will not do, including crisis help and doctrine.

Selah Bible Study's companion is a study tool. It follows the same rules in chat, on Telegram, and in sermon or lesson prep.

The public page, How Selah Bible Study handles AI, is the full statement. In short:

  • It quotes Bible verses from a text lookup and names the translation. If a phrase is not in the Bible, it says so.
  • It will tell you it is an AI. It has no faith of its own. It cannot pray, but it can write a prayer for you to pray.
  • It does not invent personal stories, names, or memories. Notes and devotionals use "you" or a [placeholder].
  • It will not write a preach-ready sermon from a topic alone. It will help you study and outline.
  • It points you to your local church and to real people for counsel, the sacraments, and community.
  • If you mention self-harm, suicide, abuse, or a personal crisis, it gives you 988 (call or text, US and Canada), the Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741 in the US, or 686868 in Canada), and 911 for emergencies, and it asks you to reach a trusted person or a pastor.

On the historic core of the Christian faith (the Trinity, the deity and bodily resurrection of Jesus, salvation by grace through faith) it answers plainly. On secondary issues it says that Christians disagree. Selah Bible Study is non-denominational.
